Girl Scout Alumnae

Girls can do anything

When Heather Conroe was in first grade, a boy told her that boys were better at things than girls. She came home angry and convinced that from that day forward she would show everyone girls were just as good as boys. And she has. Heather excelled in science. In seventh grade, she won Best in Show in a regional science fair that included high school students. Heather just completed her sophomore year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she is studying genetics. Heather credits Girl Scouts with helping girls develop leadership skills, providing opportunities for travel (she attended two Wider Opportunities), and allowing girls to see and do things they wouldn't be able to otherwise. As a Girl Scout, Heather used her skills to put on several programs in her area, including a science fair, for younger Girl Scouts. Now when she can come home from MITl, Heather helps her old troop run workshops. She’s always wanting everyone to learn. Heather was a Girl Scout for 13 years, starting as a Daisy Girl Scout in 1990 in Ocean View, Delaware, and then moving on to Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors. Today she is a lifetime member. Her leaders included her Brownie leader, Miss Rose, as well as her mother, Annmarie Conroe, and her father, Greg Conroe.
